MISI Entertainment Interviews Yukmouth (@ThaRealYukmouth)

MISI Entertainment presents to you yet another EXCLUSIVE interview with Cali’s own “YUKMOUTH”

Interview

MISI: How’s it going Yukmouth? Thanks for taking the time to interview with us; its definitely a pleasure.

Yukmouth: Well just making a hit song & staying consistent with your rap career is hard.

MISI: What are some of the challenges you have encountered on your journey to success, and how you’ve overcome those obstacles?

Yukmouth: Dealing with these Yankee ass record labels taking money from you and pimping the artist there’s so many issues I can go on for hours…I woke up so now I’m signed to myself on my own record label SMOKE-A-LOT RECORDS and I’m the CEO now so I get all my money instead of the record label pimping me.

MISI: Lets talk about your song “Pac Man” on the Audio Invasion Mixtape which is definitely a banger for the streets. What kind of mind set do you need to be lyrically when writing a track like that

?

Yukmouth: Well you know the name came from the popular 80′s video game PAC-MAN so I just used that title to describe a drug dealer selling drugs or PACKS so since he sells PACKS he’s the PAC-MAN you dig and the lyrics is me I go in.COM!

MISI: You have aready showed the game how versatile you can be; what can we expect from you in the near future as well as your upcoming album?

Yukmouth: Right now we working on the super group album THE REGIME-DRAGON GANG album which is myself, TECH N9NE, DRU DOWN, LEE MAJORS, AMPICHINO, FREEZE, YOUNG BOSSY, RAH-MEAN, MONSTA GUNJAH, B.G. BULLET WOUND, CHOP BLACK, KUZZO FLY, T-LEW, CHINO NINO, BIG FASE MEL, and HD. After that drops I’m dropping two group albums one with MESSY MARV and one with AMPICHINO then finally I’m coming out with my next solo album titled J.J.-THUGGED OUT which will include a documentary about my life on the streets and the music industry. All coming out on SMOKE-A-LOT RECORDS

MISI: What inspired you to be an artist ? Who are your musical influences?

Yukmouth: My dad really inspired me to do music because he did music he was a bass guitar player from a band so he was the first to put a instrument in my hands which was the trumpet in the 3rd grade. Then after that I was a snare drum and bass drum player for a marching band in elementary school. Then when I got to Junior High I started rapping with a group called B.W.P. brothers with potential which included my future rap partner NUMSKULL from there I went to jail for selling drugs so in jail I had nothing but time to think and plot my future I told myself I’m never going back to jail and started getting serious with my rapping I was writing songs everyday. I also drew the famous LUNIZ logo which would become our logo and I also came up with the group name THE LUNIZ and NUMSKULLS name my own name so I been in this music game for a minute.

MISI: Who in the game that you haven’t worked with but would love to work with in the future?

Yukmouth: JAY-Z, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Nas, DR DRE, EMINEM, ANDRE 3000, and ICE CUBE.

MISI: If I were to turn on your ipod right now, what 3 artist would I see in your most recently played list?

Yukmouth: JAY-Z, Lil Wayne and YUKMOUTH LOL.

MISI: Now I have to ask this question for all the ladies out there: What type of girl gets your attention?

Yukmouth: my WIFEY I’m married.

MISI: If you weren’t rapping in what field would you likely be working in?

Yukmouth: I think I’d be a cartoonist because I love drawing cartoons.

MISI: What do you think is the biggest difference between rappers trying to make it in the game 10 years ago and rappers trying to make it in the game today?

Yukmouth: 10 yrs. ago a artist really had to know how to rap you couldn’t get a deal off gimmicks unless the gimmick was put out independently now a days rappers can get signed off video hits, mixtape downloads and radio spins so they only giving these artist single and ringtone deals instead of record deals like we had 10 yrs. ago.

MISI: What kind of advice can you give a person trying to pursue a music career?

Yukmouth: I would tell artist to go INDEPENDENT f*ck the record labels.

MISI: Lastly are there any shout outs you want to throw out there?

Yukmouth: Yeah shout out to my team at SMOKE A LOT RECORDS for keeping me consistent and relevant shout out to all my fans for supporting me over these year’s without you I wouldn’t be sh*t so I appreciate everyone’s love and support. I also want to give a BIG shout out to my crew THE REGIME for being LOYAL & holding the M.O.B down no matter what comes our way THANK YOU ALL..ONE VILL, 1 M.O.B all my fans check me out on www.smokealotrecords.com

MISI Entertainment Interviews With MR. SEF

MISI Entertainment has had the pleasure to interview MR. SEF a unique artist with plenty of experience under his belt.I hope you guys enjoy another exclusive interview only at MISI Entertainment.

MISI: How would you describe your music to a first time listener?

MR. SEF: Good listening. My music comes from the heart. I give you me 100%.

MISI: Now you have an album coming out soon called “Black Hollywood~The Hustle” what can you tell us about it?

MR. SEF: it’s a project that I’ve been working on for some time now. It’s the story of regular dude just trying to make it in this crazy world. It’s my story of being apart of this industry from teen to a young adult. My experiences and lessons. It features some of the hottest underground artists from the west coast as well as nationally known artists. The project is executive produced by me and features production from Jay Anthony, SU, Tario, T-pain, A1Mikey, Dj Head, DJ Natural, Dj Symphony, Just Blaze, P-lo and few others. It’s a fresh sound.

MISI: Who has inspired you from a music prospective?

MR.SEF: My every day life. My music is a reflection of what I see and feel. My uncle was a musician and he told me at a young age to speak the truth and give myself to my music, so that’s what you get. Every artists has artist that inspire them. Mine are Nathan morris from Boyz 2 men, Ratt, Poison, Green Day, Travis barker, Ti, Tupac, Biggie, Diddy, Trick Daddy, Cool n Dre, Bob Marley, diligentz and Kali Fam.

MISI: Where does the name MR. SEF originate from?

MR. SEF: Sef is my name. My fam calls me MR. The two stuck together.

MISI: Starting out in the music industry you were more involved in the promoting and marketing describe the change from doing that to now being an artist?

MR. SEF: No change other then the spotlight being on me now instead of some other artists. I like both sides of the game but I felt at this point in my life I have somethings that need to be addressed and my music allows me to do that.

MISI: List 5 things about you as a person?

MR. SEF: loyal, driven, perfectionist, heart and passion.

MISI: Your resume is pretty well versed, you have collaborated with some heavy hitters such as Nelly, T-Pain, and Proof of D12 just to name a few who in the game would you want to work with?

MR. SEF: Any and everyone. I don’t care who you are. If you are talented we should work together. I don’t care too much about names. I just like to create the best product I can and to do that you gotta have very talented people around you. I most def want to collab with Wiz Khalifa, Jeezy, Roscoe Dash, Nipsey Hussle, Wale, Drake, Panic at the Disco and Rihanna.

MISI: Lets get more into the music we got 3 exclusive bangers from you featured on our website “Hot Boi,” “Come To Me,” and “Six Re-Mix” briefly describe the process in creating these songs.

MR. SEF: Hot Boi is produced by my little brother Jay Anthony. I had and Idea to sample Juvi’s “If I ain’t hot boy then what you call that line.” I told Jay about it and he hit me with the track. It took a couple weeks to get it right but we knocked it out. “Come to me” is produced by A1Mikey and he is just dope!!! He knows my style pretty well so he hits me with tracks all the time. “Come to me” was playing over the monitors in my studio one night and I laid it on the spot. Took me about and hour. “Six” is produced by P-lo, one of my good friends, heard the track and knocked it out on the spot. I love all three of the tracks.

MISI: Now you know we gotta ask this question for the ladies out there what kind of women would get your attention?

MR. SEF: ALL!!!! Lol.

MISI: If you had the chance to date any female in the entertainment industry who would you choose?

MR. SEF: Lea from Bad girls club Miami. Most def.

MISI: If I was to go through your ipod right now what top 3 albums would I find?

MR. SEF: Bob Marley – Legend, 2pac – All Eyes on me and Boyz 2 men – 2.

MISI: It has been a pleasure interviewing you make sure you stay in touch. One last thing are there any shout outs that you want to throw out there?

MR. SEF: S/o to GGI, M1Promo and to Get it back Fam

Biography

The only way to tell Mr. Sef’s story, as an artist, is to begin with his history in the music industry. He was born and raised in The Bay Area and started recording at the age of 14 with local SF indie label: 3 Reasons Entertainment (3RE). Working with 3RE gave Sef his artistic exposure to the music industry, while cultivating in him, the motivation to immerse himself into other aspects of the business.

By age 17, Sef began working promotions and marketing for Universal, Arista, and WEA.

This early tenure in the promotion and marketing arena allowed Sef to network with some of the industries hottest artists such as: Nelly, Hot Boyz, Fat Joe, Lil Mo, Ray J, Nappy Roots, Lil Flip, Young Jeezy, Bloodraw and countless others. Proving his ability to get the word out to the streets, on these artists, landed him the nod from Interscope Records, building relationships with Game, Members of G-Unit, and Shady Records. This was all done by the age of 20. Sef’s work with promoting and marketing different musical artists brought him back to the starting point of his career in the music industry – as being an artist himself.

In 1998 Sef started working with West Coast Super Group Kali Fam. Sef stepped back into his role as artist, rapping along side Kali Fam members D.S., Brasco, 18, and Erk the Jerk. The group’s first release was “Here Now,” followed by a second album “We All In,” featuring Nelly, Redman, and Keith Murray. Sef continued working behind the scenes marketing and promoting Kali Fam, eventually securing a major independent deal with Pudgie Records. The latest Kali Fam album, “How We Live,” features D12, Boo Yaa Tribe, Isyss, Yukmouth, and Rufus Black. The three Kali Fam albums were released consecutively between 2000 and 2004, with Sef paying for the first two albums’ recording costs out of pocket.

Now that Kali Fam has secured their spot as music powerhouses putting the Bay Area on the map, Sef has chosen to dedicate himself to a solo career. He is currently working on a debut album with guest appearances by Nappy Roots, Lil Flip, and Keak Da Sneak. Joe Budden, T Pain, Tha Az, Diligentz and Lil Fizz of B2K are also scheduled to appear on the album. We can only patiently wait to hear what will be most definitely be a powerful debut album by an artist who has already proven himself in the music industry on many levels.
